Professional Development
The quality of our schools depends on the people within them.
Your development shouldn’t stop because you’ve got the job.
That is why professional development is part of how we work at Trinity. Whether you are starting your career, developing your expertise, moving into leadership or looking for your next challenge, we want there to be opportunities to keep learning and moving forward.
Edurio Trust Value Excellence Award
Trinity was named one of the top 10 trusts in England in Edurio’s 2025 National Trust Value Excellence Award. The award is based directly on staff feedback and recognises trusts where colleagues feel most confident that being part of their Trust is beneficial.
Across Trinity we believe great teaching is built on continuous learning. That is why CPD is a weekly entitlement for every teacher across our schools. What that looks like varies, shaped by each colleague’s career stage, the size and context of their school, and their own development needs.
SPARKE: Sharing Practical Advice from Research, Knowledge and Experience
Every Trust school also has access to SPARKE, our in-house professional learning platform, which includes:
The Trust Research Journal: eight editions showing how research has been applied within the context of our own schools.
SPARKE TV: short videos showing different ways to approach subject-specific skills and knowledge in the classroom.
The Leadership Podcast: lessons in leadership from colleagues at every level of the organisation.
Network Days and Trust Conferences.
This is supplemented by network days on INSET and our Trust conferences, which run on a two-year cycle.
TrinityFest is delivered by Trinity staff, for Trinity staff. Last year, colleagues chose from over 170 sessions, all aligned to Trust priorities, to build their own bespoke programme for the day.
In alternate years, our Culture Conference explores the key cultural pillars of our organisation. It shares the work colleagues across the Trust are doing to promote and support these pillars. It also brings in external speakers to prompt reflection and challenge our thinking. The aim is continual improvement and intellectual rigour in our approach, whatever someone’s role.
The 2025 conference focused on Collaboration and Innovation. In 2026, our theme is Excellence, with sessions exploring Excellence for All, Excellence in All, a Professional Standard of Excellence, Academic Excellence, and Technology to Drive Excellence.
Professional development is at the heart of what we do
Professional development looks different for everyone. At Trinity, colleagues can build their expertise through Trust-wide learning, specialist programmes, nationally recognised qualifications and opportunities to learn alongside others.
Development at every stage
Professional development at Trinity goes beyond individual courses or training days. Through our own education organisations and partnerships, colleagues can develop from their first steps in teaching through to specialist, senior and executive leadership.
That means opportunities within our schools, across the Trust and through programmes with wider regional and national reach.
National Professional Qualifications through TIE
Trinity Institute of Education is an Associate College of the National Institute of Teaching and delivers National Professional Qualifications for teachers and leaders at every stage.
The offer includes specialist and leadership routes spanning teaching, behaviour and culture, literacy, primary maths, teacher development and SENCO, through to Senior Leadership, Headship and Executive Leadership.
West Yorkshire Maths Hub
Trinity Academy Halifax has been the lead school for West Yorkshire Maths Hub since its inception in 2014, connecting our Trust directly to the national Maths Hubs programme.
The Hub provides high-quality professional development for teachers, teaching assistants and maths leaders across the region.
Leadership Insights Course
Explore the realities of leadership through open, reflective conversations with experienced leaders, developing the confidence and insight to take your next step.
Pastoral Leadership Course
Develop the systems, relationships and leadership approaches that underpin strong pastoral provision and help create positive cultures where young people can thrive.
Taking your expertise further
Development can also mean using what you know more widely. Lead a project, mentor colleagues, contribute across the Trust or help shape practice beyond your own school.
