Learning beyond the classroom: how Trinity IGNITE gives primary pupils a head start in life
Primary school enrichment activities shape how children see the world and themselves.
At Trinity, we know that academic success is only part of the story. While reading, writing, and maths build a crucial foundation, true confidence comes from experiences that push children beyond their comfort zones.
That’s why we created Trinity IGNITE. Through a wide range of enrichment opportunities, pupils are encouraged to try something new, discover their interests and develop skills that will stay with them long after they leave school.

IGNITE Platinum: real-world challenge and adventure
Building on the wider IGNITE programme, the Trinity MAT IGNITE Platinum Award allows pupils to take part in a series of unique experiences and engage more deeply with the world around them.
This year, primary pupils from across our Trust stepped out of the classroom and into environments that tested their teamwork and problem-solving skills in practical ways.
Outdoor expeditions at Doe Park
New challenges reveal what children can do. During their visit to Doe Park, pupils tried raft building, kayaking and canoeing, working together to navigate unfamiliar experiences. They returned with stronger problem-solving skills, greater confidence, and a clear sense of what teamwork can achieve.

Community action with Focus4Hope
Small actions can make a real difference. Our pupils saw this first-hand when they volunteered with Focus4Hope, helping to support vulnerable people in the local community. The children packed food parcels, restocked shelves and spoke with founder Louise in a lively question-and-answer session. The experience showed them how time, care and practical help can strengthen a community and how they can play their part.
These experiences do more than create great memories. An afternoon on the water can ignite a lifelong passion for outdoor sports, while community work teaches young people the quiet power of empathy and local responsibility.

Why we take learning outdoors
The IGNITE programme is rooted in a simple belief: every child should have the opportunity to experience more, discover more, and become more.
When young people tackle new, hands-on activities, the impact goes beyond the day itself:
- Confidence grows quickly. Overcoming initial hesitation shows children they can do more than they thought.
- Teamwork becomes practical. In a classroom, sharing is a concept. On a raft, balance requires everyone to pull their weight.
- New passions ignite. An afternoon spent canoeing can spark a lifelong love of outdoor sport or environmental exploration.
Rather than offering occasional, isolated trips, IGNITE embeds meaningful experiences into the school year. Whether a pupil is discovering a love of nature, navigating a kayak for the first time, or helping a neighbour through local volunteering, IGNITE gives them space to flourish. The result? Pupils who are independent, resilient, and ready for whatever comes next.

A year of new possibilities
Every new experience helps a child grow; that’s why we make primary school enrichment a priority. During 2025/26, IGNITE encouraged our pupils to be curious, take on challenges, and play an active part in their communities.
Their achievements give us plenty to celebrate, but our ambition doesn’t stop here. We will keep opening doors and creating opportunities that help every child look ahead with confidence.
